Fatbits has two special modes called Snapshot Mode and Locked Mode. Snapshot Mode freezes the location and contents of the magnified area shown in the Fatbits window, whereas Locked Mode freezes only the location and continues to update the contents at the refresh frequency.

Snapshot Mode is useful when you have a magnified image that you wish to refer to as you continue to use your computer. Locked Mode is useful when you have an area of the screen you want magnified on a continuing basis and you need your mouse free for other uses.

In Snapshot or Locked Mode, Fatbits will show the position and color of any pixel in the magnified area when you move the mouse pointer over the pixel in the Fatbits window.

Momentary Snapshot Mode
You can momentarily place Fatbits in Snapshot Mode by holding down the Ctrl key. When you release the Ctrl key, Fatbits will return to normal. While holding down the Ctrl key, you can make Snapshot Mode permanent with a left click inside the Fatbits window.

Conversely, when Fatbits is in Snapshot or Locked Mode, you can also momentarily exit the mode with the Ctrl key. When you then release the Ctrl key, Fatbits will return to Snapshot or Locked Mode with the new location and contents.

Any of the following operations will enter Snapshot Mode:
  • Left click the Fatbits window while holding down the Ctrl key.

You can switch between Snapshot and Locked Modes with a left double click inside the Fatbits window.
